Ukrainian Women level game against Poland in EuroHockey Nations Championship II in Poland
The final Pool C match between the Ukrainian outfit and their Polish counterparts eventually ended in a draw at 2-2, in the EuroHockey Nations Championship II played at University of Physical Education, Ul Krolowej Jadwigiin in Poznan, Poland on Sunday,
August 14 the final day of the championship.
The match proved a well fought battle between the sides where the Ukrainian ladies were more dominant in the first thirty five minutes by scoring a single goal in that part of the game while their opponents lacked scoring in the similar period. However,
in the second part of the game the match remained somewhat in balance but the Polish Women remained more dominant for most of the time in the second half by scoring two goals while the Ukrainians could make a solo strike in the second half like the first one.
In fact the Polish athletes looked more disciplined in their attack as well as in defence in the second part of the match.
The match started on a slow tempo where both the teams created a number of good scoring as the game progressed but they did not make any impression on the scoreboard in the initial 20 minutes. However, it was Ukraine which firstly ticked the score board
latterly in the first part and scored the opening goal in the 22nd minute. The scorer was Maryna Vynohradova, the skipper of the Ukrainian Women, who brought a beautiful piece of stick work into sight and scored the opening goal, thus put her team
in the lead. The Polish Women too tried hard but they failed to find the Ukrainian net while the remaining time of the first half no further goal was scored by any side.
However, in the second half the Polish Women dominated the entire time and scored two outstanding goals. They were on the move just three minutes into the second half and opened their account when Katarzyna Krasinska scored a wonderful field goal in the
38th minute, thus levelled the score. The Polish Women took another six minutes to find the lead first time in the match and scored their second goal in the 44th minute when Natalia Wisniewska scored a splendid goal on open play with
an individual effort and put her team in the lead.
The match continued with the same pace and both the sides, especially the Ukrainians, were desperate to score further goals. However, Ukrainian Women remained successful in their strategy and scored the equaliser just four minutes before the close of the
play when Maryna Vynohradova once again did the job for Ukraine by converting a penalty stroke into goal in the 66th minute.
