Uli Hoeness: Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben is still an integral member of the squad – Bundesliga news
Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has revealed that he still regards Arjen Robben as an integral member of the squad, and that the winger will not be released despite having an injury plagued season.
He was talking in response to claims made by former players that Robben is no longer required at the club and Bayern are a better side without the Dutchman’s involvement.
The president believes that the winger is a versatile player and Bayern are fortunate to have a player of his class in their line-up. He also wished to see the Dutch international back to full fitness ahead of some important fixtures in the coming days.
Hoeness tagged all such claims as jokes and is confident of Robben’s speedy recovery. He added that the winger is an automatic selection in the squad and could inspire the German giants to a win both in the Champions League and the Bundesliga.
The player hasn’t managed to appear in the starting XI since the Hamburg game on August 20, which has become a source of frustration for the winger.
Robben appeared as a late second half substitute in a Champions League game against Manchester City and failed to make any impact against Hoffenheim last weekend after coming on as a late second half substitute for Franck Ribery.
While talking to local press, HoeneB further enthused, "It is an absolute cheek from some ignorant people. In previous years, the question has always been asked what FC Bayern are worth without Robben, and now he should not even have a place in the team.
It cannot be true. It's the joke of the year."
Robben has so far made 42 league appearances for the club since landing at Allianz-Arena in 2009. He also has 30 goals under his belt from those games. The winger earned his Netherlands debut in 2003 and has 15 goals to his name from 53 international caps.
