Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness concerned at Borussia Dortmund's elimination for Europe...
Bayern Munich president, Uli Hoeness, recently expressed concerns at Borussia Dortmund’s elimination from the Champions League. He was of the view that the Black Yellows would now have an added advantage in the Bundesliga as it is the only major competition
they are now focusing on.
Hoeness was talking ahead of Bayern’s league game against VfB Stuttgart on Sunday, December 11, at Mercedes-Benz-Arena. The Reds will go into the game on the back of a 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League and would like to get back to winning
ways against the Swabians.
The president reckoned that Borussia Dortmund are the major threat to Bayern’s chances this season, and the Reds can’t afford to drop points in any of the remaining league games.
He also reserved concerns at Dortmund’s elimination from the Champions League which would allow the reigning champions extra time to focus on the Bundesliga.
Hoeness opined that the Bavarian giants need to focus on one game at a time and should try clinching silverware this season. He added that had the Borussians stayed in the competition, it would have been a favourable result for Germany’s most successful
club, Bayern.
While talking to Bild, the president further enthused:
"Borussia Dortmund can now just focus on the league. Every time we are travelling through Europe, they can just lay down and relax.”
“We have failed to gather a big lead over our domestic rivals in the opening months of the season. The fact that Dortmund have now been eliminated from the Champions League is a bad thing for us." Hoeness further concluded.
However, the president assured that the Reds won’t be perturbed by the current situation and will stay focussed irrespective of emerging pressures.
Dortmund finished bottom of group F with just four points from six games and will return to action on Sunday, December 11, against Kaiserslautern.
Munich, on the other hand, are currently atop the league table, one point clear of the second placed Borussia Dortmund.
The Reds also finished atop the Champions League Group A despite losing their last game to Manchester City on Wednesday, December 7.
