The Bayern Munich president has revealed that the Reds are no longer interested in the Montpellier striker.
Uli Hoeness has confirmed that Bayern Munich will no longer make a move for Olivier Giroud at the end of this season. The Reds were previously interested in the Montpellier striker as a replacement for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ivica-Olic-c17399 who is likely
to part ways during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The chief was talking after his side’s 2-0 win over Olympique Marseille in the second-leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday, April 3, at the Allianz Arena. As a result, Bayern progressed through to the
last-four of the competition with a 4-0 aggregate over the Ligue 1 side.
Hoeness mentioned that Giroud is very similar to Mario Gomez and the Reds want a striker who could provide support to the former Stuttgart man. He reckons that the Frenchman might be a wrong choice and therefore the club will monitor
other options.
In an interview to RTL, the President further added: "He is a player who impressed me when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899. But his profile is too similar to Mario Gomez's. We want an attacker who can be associated with Gomez."
Giroud has 18 goals to his credit so far from 27 league appearances. He made his France debut last year and has three caps under his belt bagging a goal during the process.
The Munich giants will definitely need an established striker prior to the start of next season with the possible departure of Olic and Nils Petersen. Both the attackers have found themselves in an unfavourable situation at the
club as they have failed to make their mark in this campaign.
However, Olic featured in Bayern’s last game against Les Phoceens and bagged a brace in his side’s 2-0 win. The striker, though, has found limited opportunities in the Bundesliga and therefore wants to move elsewhere where he could
get sufficient playing time.
Bayern are most likely to face Real Madrid in the semi-final. Los Blancos will be in action against APOEL Nicosia in their second-leg on Wednesday, April 4.
