Uli Hoeness predicts a tough year ahead for Bayern Munich - Champions League News
Bayern Munich president, Uli Hoeness, recently predicted a tough year ahead for Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Hoeness was talking after Bayern’s Champions League game against Manchester City which the Bavarian giants lost by a 2-0 margin, though
they had already secured the top spot in group A, with Napoli finishing as the runners-up.
He was of the view that Bayern would find it difficult to make it to the final of the Champions League as all weak sides, including the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, have been dismissed.
The president urged his players to get their acts together quickly if they want to progress even further in Europe. He opined that Bayern are certainly in with a great chance of winning the competition, especially since the final is scheduled to take place
at Allianz-Arena.
At the same time, Hoeness reserved praise for manager Jupp Heynckes, who certainly has played a major part in restructuring the side after they were down and out last season.
He believes that the Bavarian giants would have to work harder in order to play the final of the competition, though he admitted that his troops can pose a threat to any side in Europe.
While commenting on the club’s massive turnaround from last season, the 59-year-old further added:
"There were ups and downs. The beginning of the year was catastrophic, but then at the last minute we finished with a spot in the Champions League qualifiers. Then came the new coach, Jupp Heynckes. For 10 weeks, we played fantastically. Then there were
some minor setbacks, and now we've recaptured our form. That's life."
"It is a nicer Christmas if you are placed first over the winter, than if you know you have to chase the top after." He concluded.
Bayern finished atop the Group A, two points above Napoli, and also find themselves leading the Bundesliga standings with 31 points from 15 games.
