Ulster accepts Andrew Trimble for two more years
Despite the fact that many question marks are hanging over the careers of Jamie Heaslip and Jonathan Sexton, Andrew Trimble has become the latest Irish international player to entrust himself to play within his region for next two years.
He has put pen to paper with Ulster on a recent Irish international contract. He will be playing for Ravenhill for the coming two years, till the end of 2013 season. This deal has given a major boost to Ulster, just before their clash with Biarritz. Tremble
believes it’s a positive decision from his side and it will give him a lot more chance to play in Irish Rugby and with Ulster as well.
Andrew Trimble is a 26 year old Irish Rugby Union player from County Londonderry in Northern Ireland. He completed his Ulster Schools Cup in Colerain Academical Institution. He has been playing wing or an outside centre for Ulster Rugby since then. He was
signed by Ulster for a new three year deal in 2006. He has also been playing for other clubs like Ballymena RFC in AIB League and has also played Under 21 for Ireland Schools. Trimble made his debut for Ireland National Rugby Union Team by replacing Brian
O’Driscoll who was injured. This happened during IRB Autumn Internationals 2005 against Australia and he was selected again later in the same week against Romania. He scored two tries and won the match for his national Irish side.
He played his first Six Nations Championship in 2006 and was chosen to be an opener against Italy. Trimble started impressing everyone with his abilities and skills. He scored another try against France in the next match when he was called as a second half
replacement. He was also a member of the Irish squad in 2007 Rugby World Cup and played a couple of matches as a center and wing. He underwent two surgeries in his career and missed complete seasons and summer tours of 2008 and 2009. He has been honoured with
two awards to date and he received both in 2006. He was named as Ulster Rugby Player of the Year and BT Irish Rugby Union Players Association’s newcomer of the Year. Trimble is a strong believer and has complete faith in Christianity; he is even studying Theology
at Belfast Bible College after dropping out from Physics at Queen’s University.
Andrew Trimble’s signing has given birth to a successful era of contract negotiations for Ulster as another fellow Irish International Stephen Ferris is under consideration and Nevin Spence, Dan Tuohy and Paddy McAllister are also in the list for upcoming
signings.
Trimble gave a positive response to media when asked about this decision, he said, “Ulster and Irish rugby are going from strength to strength and my decision to stay in Ireland was to make sure I was part of that. We have some big games coming up, so I
am really happy that I was able to agree my new contract before we went into the busy period.”
On a practical note it’s World Cup in Trimble’s mind right now and he is taking every decision in accordance to get selected for the World Cup squad this year.
He admitted, “I also wanted to concentrate on playing as well as possible here with Ulster so I can challenge for a place with Ireland ahead of the Six Nations and the World Cup this year.”
It’s not just Six Nations or World Cup that is in the wing’s bag right now; he will be playing in Heineken Cup and Magners League as well for Ulster.
The upcoming game with Biarritz is Trimble’s first priority for the moment and everyone from Ulster’s squad is completely focused on that one game.
Declan Kidney, the Irish coach said, “It is great news that the IRFU and Andrew have come to an agreement that allows him to continue his playing career in Ireland with Ulster. It is important for both the Provinces and Ireland to keep as many of our top
players playing here.”
Even the Director of Rugby for Ulster, David Humphrey is sure that after his tremendous performance against Teviso, he certainly is in his best for and will produce results for Ulster this season.
