Ha, I got a violation notice for a question that I received the best answer for. How is that even possible? Anyway it is sweet.

Hockey question:

Any good junior summer tournaments in your area. State where you live and what is going on. I checked the Raleigh site but nothing here(no shock)

Also

Anyone attend any hockey camps or power skating camps in their youth?

I went to a LaFontaine and a Sabres run hockey school a bunch of summers in my youth, also the Robby Glantz Power Skating School.

  1. as a kid i went to Dallas Drakes camp up at Northern Michigan, i went to LaFontaines, and i went to Proberts. Proberts was cool. there were alot of wings there like fedorov, burr, eddie Meilit was the best one by far

  2. If it wasn't for hockey schools they would banish summer in Ontario. The Haliburton Hockey Camp has always been a good one. There are a couple in my old home town of Whitby that sound good. For the Ladies Vicky Sunohara has one (Google - Whitby Hockey Schools). The other is the Durham Hockey Institute. It is run by some of the Whitby boys who played the game. The list of guest instructors is impressive. But the core are excellent instructors as well.

Haley when you did get back home did you find that the locks had been changed and the house was for sale?(Is this chatting?)

  3. Yeah man this place is getting silly to say the least.

I went to a bunch of camps in my youth in NJ and states near by.

Ocean ice palace hockey camp Brick NJ

    Jim Park goalie school

    Dave Mofet Goalie school

    Tim Kerr summer hockey camp.

Trediak(spelt wrong) the art of goaltending school.

    to name a few.

  4. I asked a question last fall, awarded the best answer the next day.............and then about 10 days after that............I got a violation notice..................and two days after that...........got an email from the person whom I gave best answer to complaining about their lost 10 points.

  5. Hi

Fight it if it isn't a good violation.  Include reason why someone would think it could call it "chatting" or none answer, as in getting additional details. It has been working for me.  Of course I don't fight the ones I deserve.  I think if they overturn enough of them then the person (people) doing it  will lose enough majo that they can report all they want and it wont matter.

Our season is wrapped up, Everyone out King fishing.  I am sure there is couple small things going on, but nothing major that I know of.

    Thank You

  6. I've had that happen to me before.

HQ: I'm not sure about the local hockey scene in Dearborn.  There might be something but I'm not sure.

Sadly, I did not attend any hockey camps.  But I did skate quite a bit when I was younger.  My uncle was a former defenseman (opted not to play in the NHL to be an engineer at GM; now he's a VP).  He used to bring all of us to some skating rinks and we'd just skate around.  One time when I was four, he came up from behind and sort of pushed me and held me up going pretty fast.  It was scarry but retrospect it was pretty cool.

  7. The problem with summer tournaments is that they have begun to become $$$ makers for the people/teams putting them on.  If there is one scout in the stand they completely inflate their numbers...Why to keep the $$ rolling in.  I remember when HNIB was the best thing going.  Now it is open to pretty much anyone who will pay.  The Chowder Cup is still a great tournament but it also beginning to get watered down.  It too is turning into a $$ maker.

As far as camps when i was a kid, i use to spend my entire summer at Paul Vincent's Dynamic Skating.  In my opinion it was unmatchable for power skating at the time.  I am not sure what it is like today.  i am sure they can not push the kids like the use too.  There would be too many parents complaining that their kids are actually sweating or too many kids on their cells phones calling mommy and daddy and whining about having to work hard.  I also did some lessons with Barbara Williams and some camps with Laura Stamm.

  8. Theres the Chowder Cup in Walpole, MA which draws some decent talent every year. The 2 years I played in it there were some pretty solid D1 schools there.

As for hockey camps. I went to a Whalers one three times, Sean Burke, Mark Janssens, and Brad MCrimmon were frequent visitors. I worked at a Robbie Glantz one for a few years. I went to Gary Dineen's camp a few times too (it was frequented by a couple NHLers, Bill Guerin, Ron Hainsey, etc).

  9. Love the avatar.  Old school Hartford Whalers.  Sweet.

  10. Tom

the Haliburton hockey camp? i wonder how they milk money out of that

  11. We have a few tourney for women that we have in Florida as well as a charity tourney we are going to play in Chicago in August. I have attended the Elite hockey camp And it was great. Very hard work but fun. We hosted our own camp  down here several years ago and It became an Iron woman camp to say the least. You may want to travel to another state to get some extra playing in. We do it all the time  Good luck.

  12. It seems many times I will give a BA, and then the question will get deleted.  Bummer.

I am not sure about local summer tournaments down here.

I was shipped to some speed skating camp in Blaine, Minnesota, when I was just a tike.  I think it was for a week or two with dorm room & meals, but it seemed like 5 months because I was placed in a group of kids MUCH older than me, which made for an ackward social situation...not only that we didn't live in MN, so calling my parents to come home was not an option.  I still wonder to this day, if my coach registered me for the correct course.

Tom:  Ha!  It is funny you say that…Every once and a while, the YMCA would have a lock-in where kids could hang out all night and then sleep on the floor of the gymnasium.  Whenever my dad would drop me off, he would say, “No fighting, because I am not coming to pick you up.”  Then as I was just about to shut the door of the car, he would say something ridiculous like, “Hurry up, I want to get home so I make some lobster.”………..he knew lobster was my favorite.

    Parents are so evil sometimes.
