Ultra Blend in good shape ahead of the Ladies’ Classic, as she turns in five furlongs at Hollywood Park
Nels Erickson’s 5-year-old mare, Ultra Blend has turned some heads this season, with her renewed attitude to win every single race she is in. Now the experienced mare faces her toughest assignment of the year, to win the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic
on 4 November, 2011, at Churchill Downs.
Staying at Hollywood Park, Art Sherman trained Ultra Blend under her regular jockey David Flores turned in a five furlong drill with the time of 1 minute and 2.20 seconds.
The experienced mare went very well in her closing workout session before the races, and made her connections happy to assure she feels good on the track every time she gets out there.
Ultra Blend galloped out in 1 minute and 15 seconds and trainer responded that the mare felt really good after the workout and there no signs of tiring.
The California bred daughter of Richly Blended, out of Ankha by Desert Classic, Ultra Blend this season appeared in seven races, and she is yet to finish off the board.
Ultra Blend has had a fantastic 2011, with 3 wins, 3 seconds place finishes and a lone third place finish, that too in the earlier part of the season.
In her penultimate race, Ultra Blend went onto win the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch at Del Mar on 6 August, 2011, under jockey T Baze.
Over at Del Mar’s synthetic surface Ultra Blend went up against a pretty tough caste, but the older and experienced runner kept it real throughout the race going past Switch and Zazu to win the 1 1/16 mile race with the winning time of 1 minute and 42.28
seconds.
Ultra Blend last raced on 1 October, 2011, and she is coming off a second place finish in the Grade 1 Lady’s Secret Stakes.
Returning to run on dirt after four consecutive starts on Poly Track, Ultra Blend at Santa Anita Park was up against Zazu in the 3-year-old and above race for females.
Ultra Blend is now done with her works, and will not work again at Churchill Downs, probably go out to feel the track and get her legs stretched for a few gallops because the mare is on good shape before the big race.
