http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 squad - Cricket News Update
The Chief Selector of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohammad Illyas, has announced the 16-man squad that will go up against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (U.A.E).
Middle-order batsman Umar Akmal and left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz, who were dropped for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 series, are now back in the squad.
Akmal is a regular member of the ODI and Twenty20 squad of the side. However, due to his recent lackluster performances in the Test format, he was kept on a hold for the Bangladesh series. Wahab, on the other hand, faced criticism for being inconsistent
and was dropped for the aforementioned series as well. He last played for the Green Shirts in May 2011 during the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
Akmal and Wahab’s inclusion turned out to be a state of banishment for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Khalil-c77063 for their poor performances. Malik has hardly performed well in the recently played ODIs; he has only scored 35 runs in 8 ODIs.
Ilyas said that though Malik is not selected in the final-16 this time, the veteran cricketer can surely find his way back if he improves his performance.
The chief selector said, “There are some players who are dropped and some are recalled but nobody is out of the picture and can be selected only if they perform. Malik may be dropped but he isn't out of the picture.”
Ilyas signed-off by saying, “We have tried to pick the best balanced side possible for a series that is going to be very tough and challenging for us. We had to keep in mind the conditions that prevail in the UAE and have picked a balanced bowling attack
including pacers and spinners.”
Another surprising comeback to the squad is of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Junaid-Khan-c77037. He was sidelined for the tour of Bangladesh due to abdominal muscle strain, and even now he has to prove his match fitness before joining the squad.
The series between Pakistan and England starts on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
