Hard-hitting middle order batsman of Pakistan Umar Akmal has been fined fifty percent of his match fee for an “offensive” snub of on-field umpires’ authority during his side’s 16-run defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, in the first semi-final of the ongoing World T20, on Thursday.
The incident took place in the 17th over of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rodney-James-Tucker-c86402 clearly looked discontented over Akmal’s move.
Later, match referee http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 code of conduct, article 2.2.11, which relates to "conduct contrary to the spirit of the game".
“Respect for the umpires is integral and is something which we always emphasise and encourage,” said match referee Jeff Crowe in a statement after Pakistan lost the match by 16 runs.
“In this incident, Umar showed blatant disregard to both the umpires' requests, which was offensive and unacceptable from an international cricketer and contrary to our unique spirit, hence a level two charge was laid,” the match referee further said in his statement.
Crowe also claimed that the Pakistan batsman has pleaded guilty and apologised for his unsportsmanlike action.
“Umar, when pleading guilty, apologised and regretted his action,” the ICC statement said.
However, there was no hearing as the aggressive Pakistan batsman pleaded guilty and accepted the sanction to the charge laid by the match officials.
Umar, the younger brother of Pakistan wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in the World T20 final, at the same R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
The second semi final of the marquee tournament, between the rampaging Australians and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382’s West Indies, will be played today, Friday, October 5, 2012, in Colombo, at 13:30 GMT.
