Umar Akmal must improve his shot selection, says Zaheer Abbas – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595 is immensely talented but the right-handed batsman has not justified his skills so far at the highest stage of the sport.
Umar has been dropped from the Test squad, which will take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 next month and there has been a lot of criticism on the young batsman from Lahore about his shot selection. However, he has been retained in the limited-overs
squad.
The 21-year-old cricketer is predicted for greatness by a number of cricket analysts all around the world and there is a strong school of thought that Umar is the most talented batsman produced by the country in the last 15 years.
Some pundits believe that Umar has reasonable averages in all the three formats of the game and has played a number of match-winning knocks for the country. He bats way too low in the batting order and this is the prime reason why,
he has so far struggled to establish himself as a prolific batsman.
While talking to Pakpassion, the ‘Asian Bradman’ said that the young batsman usually gets carried away in the longer version of the game and feels that he will have to take care of his temperament in order to excel in international
cricket.
Zaheer expressed, “If Umar Akmal has been playing silly shots in Tests – in other words, playing T20 shots in Test matches then that’s to be expected as these are 2 different forms of the game! He has spoken to me before and I have
explained this problem to him as well.”
The great batsman is also looking forward to see the progress of fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Sami-c77289, who has been recalled to the national team after a couple of years. Zaheer commented that the selectors made the right call to give another
opportunity to the fast-bowler from Karachi.
“The selection committee wanted to try him out. They wanted to see if his line and length has improved – if it has then it’s a good thing. We do lack some good fast bowlers in the team so to me, this is a good choice,” former cricketer
added.
