http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595, and believes that a couple of failures do not make him a poor batsman all of a sudden.
Umar has been the mainstay of Pakistan’s batting in the limited-overs format since making his debut in 2009. The right-hander just has one hundred under his name but he has scored 14 half-centuries and is averaging 37.38 in the 50-overs format, which is
an impressive record, considering the fact that he bats at number five or six.
At the present moment, the 22-year-old is 13th on ICC’s ODI Batsmen Rankings, above any other Pakistani player.
However, since the last 12 months, there has been immense criticism on the young cricketer because of his lack of application and poor shot selection, leading to his ouster from the Test squad.
After a good little cameo in the first ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the on-going tour, the batsman from Lahore has so far failed to make an impression in the series.
Kamran, while talking to Pakpassion, expressed that his younger brother has been doing well for the country over the years and the critics must understand that he is one of the best batsmen in the available resources of the country.
“I disagree that he’s in poor form. If a batsman fails in one or two innings that does not mean that he is suddenly a liability. Umar is one of the main players in the team and I’m confident that he will come good very soon,” the wicketkeeper said while
justifying his brother’s place in the team.
The elder Akmal admitted that Umar has the tendency to play reckless strokes at times and said that he will have to improve his temperament in order to be successful in international cricket consistently.
Kamran added, “He just needs to bat according to the team plan. Highs and lows are all part of cricket and Umar does not need to feel down or disappointed, he just needs to channel his mind to staying at the wicket and playing each ball on its merit.”
