Umar Akmal needs to improve his shot-selection, says Aamer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-c90628 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595 in international cricket and feels that it is about time that the right-handed batsman fulfils his potential.
The youngest of the three Akmal-brothers is considered to be one of the most talented batsmen in the country. Umar has been a match-winner for Pakistan since the last three years but he has been too inconsistent for the liking of many former cricketers and
a number of question marks have been raised over his shot-selection.
The 22-year-old played rash shots to get out in both the T20Is played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 recently and disappointed cricket fans.
In his article for Pakpassion, Aamer expressed that Akmal should take a leaf out of Javed Miandad’s book as the legendary batsman curtailed his range of strokes in order to perform consistently at the ultimate level of the sport.
The former left-handed batsman has no doubts about the talent of the stylish middle-order batsman but feels that he should focus more on rotating the strike, rather than look to play big shots all the time.
“I see a lot of parallels between Umar Akmal and the great http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, he realised relying purely on boundaries to score against top class
bowling was not a viable option. Instead he built innings' on singles and twos, supplemented by the occasional boundary,” Sohail stated.
Umar is criticised by different ranks, although he remains the only Pakistani to be in the Top 10 One Day International Batsmen in International Cricket Council’s (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) rankings. On top of that, Akmal’s batting averages in the shorter formats are better
than most current players in the country.
Sohail further added that Umar needs to put a price-tag on his wicket and if the youngster starts to valuing his stay at the wicket, he can become the premier batsman for the Green Shirts.
He added, “As a batsman, you need to understand the situation, show due respect to the bowler and decide not to give away your wicket away.”
