Umar Akmal should adjust according to the team’s need, urges Misbah ul Haq – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s Test and ODI captain, Misbah ul Haq believes that a player should adjust to the requirements of the team instead of demanding for a batting position according to personal preferences.
Misbah was referring to the young right-handed batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595, who has openly expressed his desire to bat higher up the order, so that he can make a bigger impact on the game.
Umar has been a prolific performer for Pakistan in the shorter version of the sport since the last two years. The right-handed middle-order batsman from Lahore is the only Pakistani in the top 10 ODI batsmen of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Rankings.
According to many, Umar is one of the most talented batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 has, and in order to groom him for future responsibilities, he must be given more opportunities up the order, as opposed to his customary lower middle order
spot.
However, talking to Pakpassion, Misbah said that the batting order is always decided according to the needs of the team and the Green Shirts feel that Umar is more suitable to bat lower down as he can utilize the
death overs much better than anyone in the current team.
“The player is given a role and he plays according to that role. The player plays according to the demands of the team, not according to one’s personal preferences! The player adjusts his game based on requirements of the
team,” said Misbah.
Misbah further added that he makes a strategy which he thinks is best for the team and cannot sacrifice the benefit of the side for an individual. The veteran cricketer is also not happy with the media and feels that it is
impossible to keep everyone happy in a country where the masses take immense interest in the game.
The middle-order batsman added, “How many batsmen can play up the order? The media has been telling me to bat up the order at No 3 - with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325 to play No 3 as well and Umar to play No 4! It’s really down to the team
combination – it’s a “format” based upon each player’s natural ability.”
