Pakistani middle-order batsman, Umar Akmal has revealed that he was furious with himself after getting out in the second One Day International (ODI) against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Dubai.
The Islanders defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in the second ODI by 25 runs. At one stage of the match, Akmal looked like he would take the game away from Sri Lanka before playing an uppish straight-drive, right into the lap of the mid-on fielder.
The young batsman scored 91 runs off only 102 balls in which he struck eight fours and a massive six. However, he has heavily criticized for throwing away a great chance to win the game single-handedly for Pakistan.
Akmal expressed his disappointment and said that he could not believe that he was dismissed because he desperately wanted to win the game for the country.
He said, “It was heart-breaking, I was absolutely distraught when I was dismissed as I really felt that I could have taken the team to victory with the middle and lower order. I could not believe what I had done."
Because of his lack of temperament, Umar was dropped from the Test series against Sri Lanka in October. The selection committee wanted him to improve this aspect of his game. The right-handed batsman from Lahore scored huge runs in the first-class cricket
and it remains to be seen that he is selected for the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 next month or not.
There is no doubt about the fact Umar is one of the most talented young batsmen in the world of cricket at the moment but he surely needs to do something about his shot selection, without losing the touch of aggression.
Umar admitted that he made a mistake and vows to learn from the experience. Being a youngster, Umar is hopeful is being more consistent at the international level in future.
"I sat there in the dressing room in disbelief and was angry with myself that I had played such a rash stroke. However cricket is all about learning from one's mistakes especially for a youngster like myself and I am confident that I won't make the same
mistake again in future," the youngest of Akmal brothers said.
