Focused on the forthcoming India and South Africa tours, spearhead Pakistan pace bowler Umar Gul has said that seniors like him would have to lead from the front on the crucial itineraries, and particularly in India, where the pressure would be hard to handle.
Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to tour archrivals India later this month to play two T20 Internationals and three ODIs against the hosts – the first bilateral series between the two Asian giants in five years.
While speaking to media reporters here in Karachi on Sunday, the 28-year-old right-arm medium pacer said that seniors like him would have to shoulder the bulk of responsibility in the much-awaited India series to help the side stand straight in the pressure games.
"I know there will be lot of pressure playing in India and I am prepared for that because the seniors have to take a lead role when playing in India," said Gul, a veteran of 45 Tests and 111 One Day Internationals.
Gul, 28, has had a successful run in both the one-day and Test format of the game, with 158 scalps in each, but it is the fast paced T20 cricket where the pacer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peshawar-c832 has made a stronger impact, claiming 62 wickets from 49 appearances.
However, the experienced Pakistan pacer has not been as consistent in recent times as he should be, and Gul said he was aware of that, adding that he had been working hard on his line and length in the nets.
"It is a One-day series, so first and foremost, I have to be careful about being economical and also taking wickets at the same time," said Gul, whose vicious Yorkers in death overs were key to Pakistan’s lone World T20 triumph in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 in 2009.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 pacer also said that there was no particular Indian batsman he would target in the much-anticipated Indo-Pak series. "India has a strong batting line-up and every wicket is important for me," insisted Gul.
The India series will be followed by Pakistan’s trip to South Africa for three Tests, two T20 Internationals and five ODIs in February-March next year.
"I know how important both series are for us and me as the most experienced pacer in the side. I am working hard and I want to create an impact against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750," Gul reiterated.
Pakistan cricket team will arrive in India on December 22, and will kick start the tour with a T20 against the Men in Blue in Bangalore two days later.
