Umar Gul unhappy over Sri Lanka getting away with 239 – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE).
The tourists were in a struggling position on day one of the match, losing eight wickets for 154 runs. They had no specialist batsman left in the innings, but the tail-enders stretched the score to 239 in the end.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/UWMBCA-Welegedara-c2735, batting at number 10, scored the second highest score of the innings and was the last batsman to be dismissed after scoring 48 runs. He smashed four fours and a couple of towering sixes in an impressive outing.
Apart from Welegedara, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HMRKB-Herath-c1559 also offered a lot of resistance against the Pakistan bowlers and contributed 29 crucial runs to the total.
This allowed the Sri Lankan team to score a respectable first innings total in the end, but Gul was not happy with the proceedings.
The aggressive right-arm bowler stated, “In the first session we bowled very well sticking to the basics. In our eagerness to get more wickets we moved away from the basics and that resulted in having to give away a few runs.”
The 27-year-old admitted that he was under pressure, as only two seamers were playing. However, he defended the decision of going into the match with a couple of spinners. He said, “Yes, there was a bit of pressure on me because I am the senior bowler. Our
coach and captain decided such a combination because they are expecting the wicket to turn on the fourth and fifth day.”
Gul did not seem to be in good touch during the first Test in Abu Dhabi, but still managed to pick up six wickets overall. However, he was in excellent rhythm with the new ball on day one of the second Test.
