I will soon have my AA degree in liberal arts at a local Mass Comm. College, as result I get guaranteed acceptance into Umass Amherst(ranked 96th in the country). Or I can move to Tampa,fl go to SPC(comm.college) and have an increase chance of going to University of Flordia(Public Ivy,#50) with the state's marticulation agreement, however it is not guranteed and my grades are slightly above average, with the inclusion of many clubs, sga, volunteering,et cetra.

My goal is to get into NYU Law School and if not the best posible law school possible. How good is umass amherst and how will they be ranked in the future(they seem to be diminshing as a top tier) and what of the risk of moving to flordia and not getting into UF? Also any help from any law students or of course umass amherst/uf students.

thank you!

  1. If it is not guaranteed then why go through the expense of moving to Florida and paying out-of-state tuition rates at a community college? The whole idea is pointless to me.

My suggestion; finish your associates degree at Mass Community College and simply apply to the universities you are interested in as a transfer student. It certainly beats going back to a CC in Florida and repeating the same courses.

Getting into law school is not really about where you obtained your Bachelor's Degree (Umass or UF) but the complexity of the courses you took, your overall GPA, LSAT scores and of course your resume and letters of recommendation.

  2. Personally I would go to UMass Amherst, but going to a community college for 2 years first might be a smart decision. Your major won't matter too much if you plan on going to law school, but you should try to get the highest GPA possible.
