  1. It isn't attached directly to the mother, it is attached to the placenta, which is "born" a few minutes after the baby is out.  Odd huh?

  2. The umbilical cord leads to the placenta, which comes out a few minutes after the baby. I didn't even notice when mine was coming out, I think the Dr. just pulled it on out while I was holding my baby. I did ask to see it, and it looked like a really big liver. I know some religions or ethnicities (especially Native American or Hispanics) request to keep the placenta and "plant" it with a tree and it is that child's "tree of life." I have also heard of being able to eat the placenta because it is full of nourishment, but I don't know if that is still done today.

  3. The cord isn't attatched to the mom its connected to the placenta.

The placenta is birthed usually 20 to 30 mins after the baby is born.

  4. It is expelled with the placenta after the baby is born, which is why it is referred to as the afterbirth.

  5. you push the placenta out after birth and the cord, the push of that only takes about 10 mins max is bout half an hour.

  6. It's connected to the placenta.  The placenta is 'delivered' about 30 minutes after the baby.
