Umbrellas and airports? i have one of those big umbrellas i can fit me and my kids under it?

i was just wondering if i can take it with me in the airport if i should mail it ahead.

Per the TSA website you are allowed to take your umbrella.  It will be inspected to make sure it does not conceal any prohibited items and then given back to you.

If you have the option of mailing it, do that.  Umbrellas are allowed, but something that big might be problematic.
