Umm..i'm really confused.?

alright i was trying to call my cell because i couldn't find it , so i was using my home phone. and i typed 416 in and after i did i could hear these faint voices. like a telephone conversation (no, no one was on the phone in my house). it kind of weirded me out. i was wondering if there's an explanation for this.

Yeah, its called crosstalk.  Most likely two phone lines running really close together can "bleed" off to each other.

Are you in an apartment?  Sometimes cheap wire will cause this.

Most often, twisted pair wire will eliminate this (aka cat3 or cat5 or cat6).

Also, if you were on a cordless, it could be interference from a neighbors cordless, but crosstalk is the more likely problem.
