  1. You're quite correct.  The Moon is not the North Star.  The North Star is named 'Polaris'.

    HTH,

    Doug

  2. Thank God for GPS when people can't tell the difference between north and up.

  3. The moon is susposed to be wherever it is. Trust me, the moon is never, ever somewhere it is not susposed to be.

And I am sorry that people are mean about it, but the apparent location of the moon, is largely dependent upon where you are. If your in the northern hemisphere it appears south, if your in the southern hemisphere it appears north, and if your on the equator, it appears over head. Also it moves east and west around the earth, with very little north south movement.

  4. I was going to honestly answer this question (earth's rotation, axis, all that fun stuff) but decided it's not worth the time or mental effort.

    FAIL!

  5. agree wirh the first guy

  6. Don't worry about the ones who write abusive answers.  There are some really hateful people on Y/A.  I don't know why they get a kick out of insulting people.

I would have to guess that whatever you saw wasn't the moon, if it is in the north and last night it was in the south.  There are no other celestial objects near enough to mistake them for the moon.  I guess that qualifies it as an Unidentified Flying (or hovering) Object.  I would love to have seen it.

If you were in an unfamiliar place, maybe you only thought you were lookng North.  I sometimes get my directions turned around if I arrive at a new place in the dark.

  7. Ehem... The moon revolves around the earth.

    Mind blowing, eh?

  8. The moon rotates around and near the equator, so depending on where you are on earth makes a huge difference.  If you are in north america..which I suspect you are, you will never see the moon in the north.  Hope this helps.

BTW; could have been a UFO.  hope you find out

  9. wow umm the moon is a revolving object not a star so it changes possessions and that is why you have full moons half moons ect

  10. it's not.  it all depends on the angle at which you see it.

edit: I have nothing to say.  I'm laughing too hard.

edit 2: Awwwww Kay T, such a nice person.  you inspire me to tears...

  11. you think its north, but its not

  12. I feel your pain.I had a question a short while back about the sun and got the same kind of answers but I know what I saw,I know where it was supposed to be etc.If you are sure in what you are seeing then check it out for yourself, and find your own conclusions.Write it all down and check it again in a year, the truth is out there but you will not hear it on here.Because the book which ever one it is at the time doesn't say it can or will happen.Logic.Lots of strange things in our skies but its not on the news.Just a thought.
