  1. We have had two different home studies, the first one took about a month, and the second one took about 2 weeks.

What the previous poster mentioned about the squeaky wheel, it it true....social workers have a lot on their plate, and if someone is always bugging them, they will want to get to that case sooner rather than later to get them off their back!

  2. Unfortunately, there's no way to speed up the process.  I'm sorry to tell you that.

How long it takes will depend on where the family is located & how the workload of the social services folks is.

The home inspection is done, generally, by the social worker visiting at least a couple of times.  She's looking to see if the home is physically safe to bring a child into -- it's not to see if it is spotless.  The social worker will likely talk to the family also, to make sure that they'll be able to give good care to the child.  They will also likely need to pass criminal background and child abuse/neglect checks.  That might be what's holding up the process as that can take a couple weeks to a few months to get back.

I hope all goes well for your friend!

  3. Really depends on what State you are talking about.  Each State has its own procedures and then there are the types of workers they hire.  BTW its called a Home Study and in some cases they can be sped up.  I was Licensed in IL in 1988 in just 1 week because it was an emergency.  I have seen others take 2-3 months.  Good luck.

  4. My home inspection took a week. But frankly, it just depends. Don't forget that the squeaky will gets the grease. Tell them to keep on asking when it is going to happen
