In cricket, how does the umpire signals for 5 run penalty, after the ball hits the helmet behind wicket-keeper?

  1. There are two penalty run signals in cricket. One is where the umpire by tapping his shoulder with the opposite hand (contrast this to the one short signal, where he taps his shoulder with the hand on the same spot). This means the penalty runs are awarded to the batting side. However, if the batting side infringes, penalty runs can just as easily be awarded to the fielding side. The signal for this is the umpire placing his hand on the opposite shoulder (no tapping).
