Question:

Umpires decisions ? The way we all see them is completely different.?

I have worked out that either we see completely different games of footy, or being a supporter of certain sides tricks the mind into thinking that the umpires only favour the opposition teams.

Yesterday, I saw lots of decisions go in favour of the Saints when I thought they weren't warranted, yet Broooocie says the opposite!

Who's right and who's wrong?

(In general, not Broooce or me)

  1. Very good point ozzy!!!. Broooce keeps on going on about the umpiring standards and how they favour the interstate teams, right? have you noticed that the majority of umpires are from Victoria.

Yes its true, a majority are from Victoria. So tell me brooooce and others, you telling me that Victorian umpires are going against a Victorian side, when it comes to 50/50 ball decisions. I don't think so. As I stated before, come at the end of the season....most Victorian sides will have doubled or even tripled the free kick count on their interstate rivals.

    I wonder why?

I just can't put my finger to it, Hm mm...maybe I am disillusioned by it all (NOT).

  2. you know theres is no difference with umpires in grass roots  right through to the afl level. most of THEM couldnt get a kick playing football so they try to get ATTENTION umpiring which you noticed in there ability  to umpire. i feel like horse racing the  afl is won in the umpires locker room . im not a sydney supporter by they get screwed week in and week out ( abit like the blues) lol

  3. I think you are right in that whoever we barrack for. That team the one we follow and hope will always win, tends to make us a little one eyed in regards to how we see the umpires performance.

Most codes of football being reasonably rough to play, one way or another produce some questionable play at the best of times. If you have ever umpired or refereed anything, you know how incredibly stressful it is. Some times there are a lot of deliberate professional fouls made in order to slow or stop the attacking teams rhythmn. Also known as stalling tactics.

I am of the opinion that the only thing harder than being a sporting umpire is being a relationship counsellor, a magistrate, a judge, or a justice. Some one famous or constantly in the media like politicians or movie and media stars and prominent business people are also always under public scrutiny as well.

  4. A lot of AFL decisions can go either way - in the back, holding the ball, over the shoulder etc.

Hey, thats what makes the game great. Two side, two sets of supporters and decisions that can go either way.

Look at Leo Barry's mark in the 2005 GF (I have a signed copy) but there are West Coast players being held and dragged.

Forget about it and have fun.

  5. oohhh OZZY

why do every question and answer you ask you mention my name

    mmmmmmmmmmmmm must be love

GEEEZZZ woman stop whinging YOU LOST

  6. yeah thats the great thing about watching AFL

  7. actually I cannot consider myself biassed because although I don't like the crows, my team was beaten the week before by the saints.

the umpiring last night was an eye opener, not the slightest bit of bias, has to be a first for AAMI, never thought I would say it but good on ya umps.

  8. its all bias. You see faults wen they go the other way, other people see it when they go your way.

  9. You know Ozzy if it wasn't for the umpires being such dumb shites, none of us would watch footy.  Imagine going home from every game and saying "Gee .. I reckon the umpires did a great job" and "You  know, I think it was fair that we lost today, because the other team really did do well".

So I've come to the conclusion that making umpires dumber and dumber each year and confusing them with all sorts of experimental rule changes is just a marketing ploy to get us all to watch the game!
