Umpires wearing orange??

Question

just because I umpire doesnt mean I know everything!

I walked into the house, turned on the Essendon v Port game and the umpires are wearing orange and the center circle had something in it......all the other 7 games looked normal with umpire shirts and center circle.

whats goin on?

may be to make them stand out more... i do not see why they cant stick with the white as they do look a lil more normal than wearing the orange... does the orange have anytihng to do with NAB

I didn't see the game only the highlights but I didn't notice it then either... I have to say that Marks answer (Harmony Day) makes the most sense.

In regard to that other persons comment, I think that most statewide or local footy umpires wear orange. they do here in Tassie anyway.

i dont know coz i didnt watch the match but ive seen the VFL umpires wear the orange when they are umpiring VFL games. but maybe the umpys manted to be different.

i read about this in the sunday age today

the reason they are wearing orange is to celebrate harmony week. they apparently almost got orange footballs

AFL umpires are always looking for ways to make them seem more important than they are, l really think some of them think they are bigger than the game itself. My dad always said that a well umpired game is a game that isn't umpired. Meaning that it is allowed to flow and that the umpires stand back and let the ball be won.

Who knows what's going on with the umpires.

They take pride in dressing like cumquats, canaries, tomatoes, or lime coloured icy-poles. To top it off, they have about the eqivilant football knowlege of those items I've mentioned!

O.K Umpy, where you hiding mate, they wear orange often, i have seen it on a regular basis, i know the ovens and Murray football league wear them at every game all over that area, the other leagues as well up that way, tallangatta, Hume, etc.

they are ok, at least you can the buggers in orange, lol.
