  1. I agree with you.

I have commented many times that 99/100 umpires have not played the game. They don't really know what's going on & continually get conned by players staging for free kicks.

Everyone else at the ground can see what's going on - except these little blokes dressed up like cumquots; canaries; robins etc.

  2. i am a north supporter and the same happened to us (lots of frees infront of goal), yet i dont blame it for our loss

i didnt see all of the bombers match, but what i did see i didnt see any inappropriate frees.

  3. If the margin was smaller then maybe you could say frees cost you the game, instead of blaming the umpires though, (which is so often the case for losing teams esp.) maybe the players themselves could show a bit more discipline when playing, that way they will not concede a free kick. I agree though that the umpiring so far this year and also late last year has left a lot to be desired. Maybe though the new 'breed' of umpires just need some experience and they frees will hopefully even out. One week you might get the lucky decisions and the next you might not, hopefully it all evens out in the end. I think that both Carlton and Essendon played some good footy last night, was a pretty good game really.

  4. i think you should stop crying and move on. the bombers won fair and square.

  5. Forky, I wasn't counting the frees, but one or two seemed to be going Gus Monfries' way because various people were being caught thumping him behind play. And Peverill didn't even get one for losing half his face, which could have been the eye.

I'm not crowing, or even Bombing, but you do the crime, you do the time. There are still a few Blues who see their task as "blues" rather than football. And the sooner Carlton retrains them - maybe Sunday morning puppy class? - or gets rid of them, the sooner the class acts at Carlton - Judd, Waite, Gibbs, Murphy, Cloke, the new lad Kreuzer, and even Fev when on song - can get a chance to win.

Which all genuine AFL fans would really like to see!

  6. I agee, it was a shocking display of umpiring decisions.  Essendon really should have received a lot more frees :)

  7. i think you should just get over it and stop crying. last week every one blamed collingwoods loss to the lions on bad umpiring. get over it and get on with it

  8. the Umps are going crazy with the free kicks, but i thought last nights game Essendon Vs Carlton was pretty good really

  9. Hey there Forky, since Andrew Demetriou decided that I don't need to watch football in America, I didn't see it.

But, as a former basketball referee, the umps can only call what they see. They don't have 13 or more camera angles like the television does.

Plus, the players decide to break the rules. The umps are doing their job by blowing the whistle.

  10. Didn't see it so I checked the highlights.  Isn't it funny how highlights never show the disputed decisions hey?

But the simple answer here Forky is "have another beer"

  11. Swans nearly always get the rough end of it - welcome to the club Forky and no there is nothing you can do about it. The worst part about modern football is that the best actors get the most free kicks ala soccer. Mathew Lloyd is a good example. Watch Geelong closely and you see how smart they are in playing for the free (I know they would win anyway but they play the umps well).

Carlton were hard done by last night. What $hits me even more is that the umps usually even up the free count by awarding frees instead of the mark so it looks even at the end of the game but you're right, it is where you get them that counts.

  12. One noticeable person gone missing for Carlton was Bret Thornton who is a key defender for Carlton.

In a game that produce 44 goals - you can't afford your key defender going missing.

Of course one person does not lose a game for you.

There were 14 goal scorers for Ess compared to 10

The damaging players for Ess was the small mobile forwards. Why were they allowed to roam so freely in the forward line?

And of course umpiring decisions does not help.

  13. wow forky are you having a winge about umpiers

just face it Carlton likes breaking records haha
