So, I was thinking about just using some un-dyed muslin and making my own multicolored patterned backdrops.

Where can i buy muslin that is not dyed? And in rather large sizes?

  1. Check with a local fabric shop that specializes in quilting supplies. If they don't have what you want in stock, they should be able to order an entire bolt for you. That's how I got a similar backdrop a few years ago, only the one I ordered was bleached.  Sorry, can't remember the exact size or what I paid for it.

  2. You can buy ten-foot-wide bleached muslin for $8 a yard from Dharma Trading Company. An excellent way to make backdrops is to use a method that is called Low Water Immersion dyeing, with Procion MX dyes and soda ash. This is the easiest of all dyeing methods, and the dye lasts for years without fading.
