Un-seeded Hong Wei and Shen Ye steal the limelight at German Open GP Gold 2012 – Badminton news
China’s upcoming shuttlers Hong Wei and Shen Ye stole the limelight as they defeated World Number Two pair of Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae to claim the Men’s Doubles title at German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Germany, on Sunday, March 4.
Wei and Ye, who are currently World Number 14 in Men’s Doubles category, surprised the world by putting up a stunning show of top class badminton and managed to beat the top seeds Jae Sung and Yong Dae in a thrilling three-set final contest.
It was undeniably the best match of final day as both pairs showed their hard-to-learn skills and remained toe-to-toe for 65 minutes in the court.
However, the Chinese pair managed to win the contest by playing well in the deciding game and claimed the title.
Right from the opening points of first set, both sides played fast and aggressive badminton and remained equal on the score board. Until the break in the first set, no side could take a clear advantage in the game.
After the break, the contest progressed in the similar thrilling fashion and the score reached at 19-19.
At this crucial stage, Wei and Ye displayed a wonderful show of aggressive game and won the set with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the second set, both sides played well but Jae Sung and Yong Dae remained slightly ahead in the whole set by playing to their maximum speed.
On the other hand, Wei and Ye played competitive badminton but failed to overpower their rivals in the second game and lost it with a reasonable margin of 18-21.
In the final set, Wei and Ye displayed a wonderful aggression in the opening part and managed an incredible lead of 11-5.
After the break, Jae Sung and Yong Dae employed their experience and remained successful in levelling the score by reaching at 15-15.
However, Wei and Ye again dominated the pace of rallies by playing fast badminton at net and took the game with a close score of 21-19.
Wei and Ye emerged as the winners of the final contest with a 21-19, 18-21 and 21-19 score on the board.
