Unable to charge battery or use without...

Question

I recently and accidentally let my three year old battery completely drain....only to find it will not charge at all anymore. I had never done this in the three years I had my computer, even though it is recommended to drain them. Furthermore, my Toshiba Satellite M40X will not run from the wall alone!!! I cannot use it without the battery!!! :( I understand this is not normal at all and I know other computers can run without their batteries :(
