Question:

Unable to disconnect malicious calls (not merely unsolicited from companies)?

Have received late-night prank calls from what sounds like a group of young idiots trying to annoy people. Obviously they block their number and although I know my service provider may be able to trace them and stop this, I can't disconnect the call at the time. Hanging up, waiting several minutes and then attempting to dial out does not work as I am immediately reconnected to the incoming call. Does anyone know why this happens? I've even unplugged my phone from the wall, but even this doesn't cut them off.

  1. Sorry to hear you are having a problem with these idiots. Depending on your telephone provider the call will be automatically disconnected if you hang up but only after a period of time. This could be up to twenty minutes.

When you hang up on them do not be tempted to pick up the phone again to check if they have gone as this will delay the automatic disconnect. Landlines do not necessarily instantly disconnect like mobile phones.

To check how long it takes for your phone line to disconnect an incoming call after you hang up ask a friend to call you (from a land line) then hang up. After a period of time a loud tone will sound on the callers handset and the call will have been disconnected.

You should keep a log of when these calls happen and report it to your telephone service provider.

    Best wishes

  2. Might not be crank call could be an outsourced oversea's bill collector and when they call even if you hang up they are on a dialer and it doesn't hang up right away
