Unable to display HD device (PS3) on HDMI screen

Question

I'm able to view and play my PS3 with a component cord on the component screen. But if I try to connect my PS3 with a proven HDMI cord on the HDMI screen. The screen only displays static. I've went online to investigate any solutions, but have only come accross other PS3 users that recommend and gaurantee that its not the PS3 settings but the actual HD tv. settings and how they aren't set to proper HD settings.
My question is, how or where on the menu can i even find the HD settings so I can fiddle around and try to have the HDMI screen display my PS3.
