  1. If there's a bathroom on the other side of that wall, make SURE you're NOT hitting a pipe!  You would have a real mess then!

  2. Find a man to do it for you.

  3. If I understand you correctly, you just cannot get the s***w started in the stud? I'm sure they are larger screws. If you cannot get them started into the stud, put it in the hole and tap on it with a hammer a few times just to get the first thread to "bite". Then you should be able to run it in with the drill. If you have a cordless drill with numbers on a dial that surrounds the chuck, twist the dial until you see a little picture of a s***w at the 12 o'clock position. That will give you the most force to run in the s***w.

  4. If your house is old as mine (70+ years) the wood is hard as can be. Try a longer drill bit. Rub your s***w across a bar of soap. Lean into that drill with all your body weight. I sometimes find if I let it rest (or that would be let me rest) for a bit, I have more strength to get behind the s***w driver.  When all else fails I have to give in and ask some guy to help - I hate when that happens ;)

I also find if I let the screwdriver turn slower as I lean into it that it works better for me. Good luck!

  5. Walls come in two basic types, solid and stud.  A stud wall or partition is a wooden framework, with plasterboard fixed to it.  A solid wall is well solid, and can be masonry or timber.

If you are fixing something heavy to a stud partition the sensible thing is to find a stud and fix to it, there may be horizontal timbers between the studs, called noggins, fixing to them is just as good.  Method, find the studs and noggins, because they are behind plasterboard, you cannot see them, but, you should be able to find them by tapping the plasterboard, you could buy a stud detector, once located, drill through the plasterboard and into the wood.  Then fix the mounting to the stud with a s***w that is long enough to reach far enough into the wood to do the business.

If the wall is solid wood, it is going to look like wood and the same instructions as above apply as above except the screws can be shorter.

If the wall is solid masonry, then you need a masonry drill and a wall plug, make the hole, push in the wall plug, drive the s***w into the wall plug.

The mounting kit, should have told you all this and provided appropriate fixings, so I am guessing that you have a solid wall, could be wrong.

What to do, calm down, have a cup of tea or coffee, think and start again.  If this does not resolve the situation, do what I would do, ask someone whose judgement you trust.

  6. Ask a neighbor the screws must be tight or the tv will fall

  7. Drill the hole deeper and put dishwashing liquid on the s***w.

  8. If you are sure you have the holes for the screws in the correct location, try this hint:  Dip the threaded part of the screws in dishwashing liquid and remove.  Then place the s***w into the correct location and use your power screwdriver to s***w them in.  The liquid will lubricate the s***w, making it much easier for the driver to do its work.

  9. Make sure it is a stud.

You don't need really require strength to do this.

Make sure that the drill is turning left to right and lean slightly into the drill, keeping the drill at 90 degrees to the wall and maintaining slight pressure.

Allow the drill to do the work.

  10. The best thing to make it easier to put a s***w into the stud is for you to pre-drill the hole for the s***w using a drill bit that is slightly smaller that the size of the s***w.

For example... if you are using a 1/4" s***w you would use a 3/16" drill bit to pre-drill the hole.

In old work (existing structures) the wood sometimes hardens with age and can be very difficult even to drill, not to mention put a s***w into it.

  11. You could get lag screws from a hardware store. These have a hex head like a bolt. They can be screwed in with a wrench instead of a screwdriver. This gives you much more leverage than a s***w head.

  12. Troubleshootying answers

You may not be hitting the stud-buy a stud finder to make sure your hitting the stud

Your s***w may not be long enough

It may be the rong type of s***w

Dont give up keep trying Good Luck

  13. are you hitting a nail ? or some type of plate ?  screws long enough ?
