i am not able to connect to internet in linux

i installed ubuntu and tried to set up internet there.

I manually configured it and later selected the auto detect option and tried different things in that.

nothing worked.

i logged off and opened my internet from XP it was working fine.

What could be possibly be the problem.

Isn't there a guaranteed detection system in ubuntu??

  1. Although Ubuntu is quite good at detecting hardware, you may not have the driver for your ethernet card . If you are using a new computer or not many people have your hardware, drivers may not have been developed on Linux for it.You could try asking at the Ubuntu forums about your ethernet card or motherboard for anyone else who had this problem and may have solved it.
