My sister is going back to Hong Kong, and wants to leave earlier then planned, and her husbands already there. They have a 13 year old son, and I want to ask what is needed for him to travel alone on United Airlines from Toronto to Hong Kong (Stopover in Chicago). Like any forms, guardians, etc. Thanks

  1. The Unaccompanied Minor service is optional for a 13 year old on United Airlines.  If he is an experienced traveler, he may travel with no special assistance.  You may elect to use the airline's Unaccompanied Minor service for a $99 service fee.  Here are the details directly from United:  http://www.united.com/page/article/0,672...

  2. Well I am thirteen and am flying to Hawaii next Monday What you do is pay an extra 50-100$ to have a flight attendant take care of him. I personally Don't get it and am fine flying alone with no super vision but they might require he gets it for a flight out of country.

  3. I believe that 12 is the cut off age for when you have to be tagged as an unaccompanied minor.  If you think he should be tagged, just let the airline know when you check him in.  There is a form that you will fill out that he can carry with him.  If he is tagged as an unaccompanied minor, someone will take him from gate to gate if he has to change planes and make sure that he is only picked up by an approved person.
