Andrey Tikhonov has shared his thoughts on Spartak Moscow’s first-half of the Russian Premier League campaign and has lamented Emery’s imminent departure from Moscow
The fact that Unai Emery was sacked by Spartak Moscow four months after taking charge at the Russian Premier League club makes Andrey Tikhonov sad about the incident, who has wished the Spanish tactician all the best in the near
future.
Valery Karpin, the club’s Sporting director, returned to the managerial position until an unspecified time period after replacing Emery.
Tikhonov, who enjoyed two stints at the Moscow-based club during his playing career, was of the belief that Emery failed to meet fans expectations and cope up with the harsh Russian weather since leaving http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-CF-c40864 earlier this
summer.
The 41-year-old manager, who helped the Spanish outfit play in the prestigious UEFA Champions League tournament every other season during his regime, left Moscow with a heavy heart last month following the club’s shocking European
elimination.
However, Tikhonov believes that Emery was unlucky and remained helpless courtesy to the injured players after failing to help the Russian outfit in progressing to the later stages of the European tournament.
“Emery is a good and qualified coach and there is no doubt about it. But he probably failed to understand and accept the Russian mentality including the mentality of the Brazilians, who have become accustomed to Russia in recent
years.”
“Emery came from Spain with their ideas, concepts and tactics but he struggled to settle down in an unfamiliar place. Last season when I was in the team, I knew it will not work.”
“People remember the good old times when Oleg Romantsev was in charge but I think it is difficult for a foreigner coach to come to Russia.” The Russian Footballer of the Year 1999 was quoted as saying.
The former FC Krylia Sovetov Samara defensive midfielder went on to admit that foreign coach often struggle to adapt to life in Russia and gave the examples of Ruud Gullit and Jose Couceiro.
As things stand, Spartak are at the 6th spot on the league table. Tikhonov revealed that the Red-Whites deserve a better place.
