Unanimous decisions at UFC 141 gives Danny Castillo the win against Anthony Njokuani – Recap
On December 30, 2011, UFC 141 was held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event was produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) where the preliminary cards of the event featured a lightweight bout between Nigerian mixed martial art (MMA) fighter Anthony Njokuani and American MMA fighter Danny Castillo. The American
fighter won the bout by a unanimous decision of 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.
In the first round of the fight, both fighters gave some blows with their punches but not much damage was done. It seemed as if the fighters will be equally matched but soon they started showing their power to put down each other. Castillo suddenly went
for a takedown but he attacked in haste without planning his next move. This made Castillo make a takedown attempt without any result as Njokuani was back on his feet within seconds. Castillo again went for the takedown but his move was again countered as
his opponent was again on his feet. This made Castillo restless as he could not find any chance to get his opponent down for a longer period of time.
Castillo tried a different approach as he now focused on Njokuani’s back. He grabbed his opponent from behind to get some leverage but Njokuani was using his legs to get him away from his back. Njokuani was using all techniques but Castillo was not in the
mood to retaliate. Njokuani pushed Castillo against the fence but he had gripped his opponent with strength.
Njokuani managed to get out of Castillo’s clutches and took him down instantly. He was now on top of Castillo making way for some striking shots. Castillo proved to be a better fighter as he got up and took Njokuani down with a powerful slam. The slam was
something which will have kept Njokuani down for good but he maintained his focus and blocked Castillo’s punches. The first round ended in the nick of time otherwise Castillo might have found a gap for a knockout punch.
In the second round, Njokuani gave some shots but they were not thrown with force. Both fighters are aggressively fighting and focusing on each other’s weaknesses. Njokuani felt that Castillo’s knees should be the focus of his attack so he goes for them.
As Njokuani went forward, he took the first chance he got and threw a right punch. The strike was effective as Castillo was taken off guard. Njokuani now had the upper hand as he was looking to takedown Castillo and kept his concentration on his feet.  The
takedown did not happen and the second round also ended.
Both fighters entered the final round where Njokuani resumed his offensive fighting style with punches and strikes. Castillo was at the receiving end of some brutal shots but since he was not against the cage, he had room to go for a takedown. He lowered
himself down to escape from the onslaught but did not get a takedown either.
With a few seconds into the fight, Njokuani went for a final strike with his combination blows but could not finish off Castillo. The sound of the third round bell was followed by the judge’s decision according to which Castillo was awarded the win 29-28,
29-28, 29-28.
