Unbeaten Majestic City and Creative Cause among six other 2-year-olds to win the Del Mar Futurity on 7 September
The $250,000 Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity reels in a field of eight 2-year-old colts’, to test their mettle in the traditional closing day featured seven furlong race at Del Mar on 7 September, 2011.
The two prominent entries are the unbeaten graded stakes winners Majestic City, the 2-year-old colt is trained by Peter Miller for Bloom Racing Stable and Heinz Steinmann owned Creative Cause trained by Mike Harrington.
The Kentucky bred son of City Zip, Majestic City, is three for three in his career winning the Willard Protocol Memorial immediately after breaking his maiden and then the Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship.
His both wins came on Hollywood Park synthetic surface under jockey David Flores. The unbeaten colt has been preparing well for the Del Mar Futurity, as he worked five furlongs in a bullet: 59.00 seconds under his usual jockey David Flores on 1 September,
2011.
Majestic City’s wins have come at sprint distances starting off with a 4 ½ furlong dash at Hollywood Park on 21 May, 2011, where he broke his maiden convincingly.
His most accomplished win out his three starts was the Grade 3 Hollywood Juvenile Championship on Hollywood Park’s Cushion Track, winning the six furlong sprint by 2 ¼ lengths defeating 5 rivals.
However, Majestic City will run over a distance of seven furlongs in the Del Mar Futurity and trainer Peter Miller does not think that an added furlong would be much of an obstacle for the unbeaten colt.
The Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes winner, Creative Cause on the other hand worked in company on 2 September ahead of the Del Mar Futurity and turned in a six furlong workout in exactly 1 minute and 12.20 seconds.
The son of Giant’s Causeway is unbeaten in his first two starts and he is coming off a spectacular win in the Best Pal Stakes under R Bejarano on Del Mar synthetic surface over a distance of 6 ½ furlongs on 7 August, 2011.
Trainer Bob Baffert who has already won the Del Mar Futurity for a record nine times, will be looking to extend it by entering his juvenile colts, Gun Boat and Drill.
