Unbeaten Scott Quigg to face veteran Rendall Munroe – Boxing News
Unbeaten British champion Scott Quigg is scheduled to face veteran Rendall Munroe on June 16 at the Manchester Velodrome. Ricky Hatton is promoting both the fighters and the bout will be for the interim WBA super-bantamweight title.
Ricky Hatton, former fighter, on the occasion said, “The fight has been brewing since Rendall signed with us and we have got there. It is about giving fans what they want and this is a match-up of the highest quality between two of the world's best 8st 10lb
boxers. The winner will go on to mix with the world's elite fighters and it won't be the end for the loser. It is possible he can fight Commonwealth champion Carl Frampton who is learning his trade and is a big prospect for the future. It is certainly the
biggest fight Hatton Promotions have staged in the UK and I am sure the public will support it.”
Scott Quigg has remained unbeaten to date. He is currently being considered Britain’s most promising fighter, especially after he defeated Jason Booth and Jamie Arthur last year.
However, it should be noted here that this is probably one of the major fights of Scott’s career. It is a career ‘make or break’ fight for him, since Munroe is not an easy fighter to take down. Munroe is the former Commonwealth and European champion. He
has defeated some high-profile fighters like Toshiaki Nishioka in 2010 in Tokyo. Going head to head with him is a tough challenge for Scott, but he needs to prove his mettle in order to go ahead with his career.
Both the fighters joined Hatton promotions recently and became prominent members of the bandwagon. Now, it is time for both of them to collide to see which one is the better man. As for Ricky Hatton, he believes this is going to be the biggest fight of the
year, if not internationally then at least for Britain. Probably, this fight is most important for Scott Quigg because he is not only defending his title but is also defending his unbeaten streak against his opponent. He has to win to prove himself worthy
of being Britain’s pride.
