West Indies have called up uncapped mystery bowler Sunil Narine to join the Test squad in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 after prolific fast bowler Kemar Roach was ruled out of the itinerary due to a shin injury.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board confirmed on Wednesday that Narine will replace injured Roach for the third and final Test of the three-match series, commencing at Birmingham on June 7, 2012.
Narine, the 24-year-old Trinidad and Tobago off-spinner, joins the Caribbean team in England at the back of an impressive Indian Premier League stint with the tournament champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
The offie, playing his maiden IPL edition, finished as the second highest wicket taker of the tournament, claiming 24 wickets from 15 matches at an impressive average of 13.50 and an economy rate of less than a-run-a-ball. Narine’s variation in bowling and
wicket-taking ability caught the eye as he was adjudged as the Golden Player of the Season.
Earlier Narine had pulled out of the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and England in order to honour his US$ 700,000 deal with King Khan’s IPL franchise KKR.
Narine is the second replacement for the Windies on the tour. Earlier Tino Best was called up to replace injured Shannon Gabriel.
Roach, the 23-year-old right-arm fast bowler from Barbados was diagnosed with the shin injury after the second Test at Trent Bridge, which the tourists lost by nine wickets to give the Poms an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
"Kemar has been carrying this soreness for the last two matches and in view of our upcoming schedule, we would like him to have the time to recover and prevent the onset of a more serious injury,” C.J. Clark, the West Indies physiotherapist told the media
reporters on Wednesday.
Roach has been the pick of West Indies bowlers so far in the Test series and his injury could be a huge blow for the tourists, already struggling in English conditions. of the tour.
"He has been outstanding with the ball for us so far this year and we are all gutted by his departure,” said Gibson. “Kemar made a lot of improvements, after enduring a tough time last year, and gave us some world-class performances during the series against
Australia and here in England," he added further.
The West Indies cricket team, on Wednesday, left for Leicester, where they will play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 in a two-day warm-up game at Grace Road, starting on Saturday.
