Uncapped duo receive Welsh call ups
Wales coach Warren Gatland has named uncapped Scott Andrews and George North in his squad for the autumn internationals in November.
Wales play their first Test on 6 November and Gatland has recalled a number of senior players who were rested or injured for the summer tour of New Zealand.
Shane Williams, Martyn Williams, James Hook, Ian Gough, Gethin Jenkins and Tom Shanklin return to the squad and all are likely to start against Australia in the opening game.
George North will be given the opportunity to earn his first cap after he was rewarded for his good form this season with a place in Gatland’s squad.
The Welsh coach said, “George North is only young but really set the start of the season on fire with his form. He is a big, physical player, last time I saw a pair of thighs like that was on some of the
Samoans back in New Zealand.”
Gatland has added a number of big physical players to play the southern hemisphere teams and the uncapped prop Scott Andrews is another to benefit from this.
"Scott Andrews has been doing well technically, physically he is in good shape, we have had our eye on him at the Blues and he has been in and around the squad for a while,” added Gatland.
There are no players who play outside of Wales included in the squad and the likes of Andy Powell and Dwayne Peel who play in the Aviva Premiership are surprise omissions.
This has provided the likes of North and Andrews with an opportunity to face Australia, Fiji, South Africa and New Zealand in the upcoming Tests.
The two uncapped players are unlikely to start against Australia, but should feature in the Fiji game.
If they can continue their good form and impress Gatland, they may make an appearance against 2007 World Cup winners South Africa or the All Blacks in the following matches.
