Uncaptured to go two turns for the first time in the Grey Stakes
John C. Oxley’s 2-year-old colt, Uncaptured, has maintained his unbeaten run so far in four starts, and now the Canada bred will have a stern test in front of him when he goes out to keep his winning streak intact in the Grade 3, $200,000 Grey Stakes at the Toronto track on 7 October, 2012.
Exclusive for 2-year-olds, the Grey Stakes will be run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles over the All-Weather track, where Uncaptured will face 6 other rivals.
Trained by Mark E. Casse, the juvenile son of Lion Heart broke his maiden at first asking over a distance of four and one-half furlongs on Woodbine’s dirt course under jockey P. Husbands on 13 May, 2012.
Mark E. Case entered the colt in non-graded stakes races, and he did not disappoint and went on to land the Clarendon Stakes also at Woodbine, but this time over the polytrack, and stepping up in distance to 5 ½ furlongs on 30 June, 2012.
Going at 6 furlongs next up, Uncaptured downed the Vandal Stakes over the same venue and track, covering the distance in 1 minute and 10.37 seconds, and another victory in stakes company was followed up when he ran in the seven furlong long Swynford Stakes on 9 September, 2012, and covered the distance in 1 minute and 22.49 seconds.
When asked about what Casse is expecting from his 2-year-old he replied, "A win," he laughed. "You always hope that a horse can do something, but the truth is until you see it, you just don't know if they can for sure. I'd be shocked if he couldn't go two turns just by the way he runs, the way he moves. I think he'll thrive from it."
Out of Arch’s mare Captivating, Uncaptured will be going at two turns for the first time in the Grey Stakes, and if he goes on to do well than, Mark Casse will consider him running in the Grade 1, $2 million Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita on 3 November, 2012.
"It's something Mr. Oxley and I would discuss after the race and go from there," said Casse.
