Unceremonious departure of veterans leaves Pittsburgh Steelers dependant on future leaders-NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers are probably the only team of the National Football League (NFL) that has seen unceremonious departure of too many veterans lately to adjust its salary cap to its limits.
Almost all the exits were against the wishes of the players and may be untimely given the amount of contribution all those players had made to the team’s successive victories for many seasons.
So, at the end it was not a welcome goodbye for both sides, but both of them realised the harsh realities of the business and wisely decided to come to the terms sooner rather than later.
Some of those gone include wide receiver, Hines Ward, who until very end did his best to stick around for more seasons and even offered to redo his deal.
Finally, the team seems to have done with its hiring firing following the reports that it has managed to create a space of about $8 million on the pay roster.
A couple of media sections hinted at the team’s plans to use those funds to lock in another wide receiver, Mike Wallace.
There is an uncertainty around re-signing Wallace because of his demand of an expensive contract.
With his coming back to the squad still in question, the Pittsburgh Steelers more or less are left to younger players.
Steelers are very much dependent on their future leaders and their worth is going to be proven only when the 2012 NFL season starts in September.
Luckily, it comes as a great opportunity for many of them to come out of the shadow and influence of veterans and claim their distinct identities, to be based on their individual performances.
One of the only few notable veterans left in the side is quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, who has been retained by the side on his agreement to accept a redone deal with lesser benefits.
So, he will be back at his starting position next season but lately he too had been reported to be unhappy with the team’s move of replacing their offensive co-ordinator, Bruce Arians, with Todd Haley.
The quarterback who was closer to the former coach is displeased with his sudden and controversial exit. He was said to be more annoyed due to the fact that the management had refused to renew the official’s contract and he ended up announcing his retirement
as a way out from the team.
Irrespective to this, Steelers are heading back to the next season with young and new stars in the squad and the team remains very much dependent on the ‘future leaders’.
