Uncertainty about Steelers’ wide receiver Hines Ward gains grounds – NFL News
Uncertainty about the role of the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward has gained grounds as the player spends most of the Steelers' last Sunday’s game against Cincinnati Bengals on the sideline.
Ward was once considered the all-time leader in almost all of the major receiving categories of the game, but on the weekend he had been outside waiting dressed up just a couple of yards next to the Steelers coach, Tomlin, with
nowhere to go. Ward is only 19 receptions away from making it to 1000 receptions and just 30 yards from his 12000 yards which could lead him to the Hall of Fame. However, given the new circumstances he has been facing during last couple of games he is uncertain
if he will be ever able to make it to that fame.
He himself in the meantime has played down the latest development saying he did not take the matters personally against the coaches. "They don't owe me anything," Ward said. "It is what it is. Whatever my role is, go out there
and do the best job I possibly can."
However, he is uncertain about his new role after being dropped by his starting role in the game against the Bengals. He had also been on the sideline in their game against the Baltimore Ravens a week before the last week due to
a helmet to helmet contact with opposite player.
He apparently does not have any fitness problem and has practiced twice since the incident before his game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He looks healthy and fresh.
"I'm healthy," Ward said. "I never made excuses for injuries or anything ... it's bigger than me, it's really about the team. I'm going to continue being positive."
Coach Tomlin has played down the suggestions that the latest happening could be called a demotion of Ward. He however did not promise either if the player would be back in his previous role in their game in Kansas City on November
27 after the Steelers bye week next week.
"We were just looking at some personnel groups and looking at ways we wanted to attack these people," Tomlin said. "We'll do that from week to week. It may not be any indication of his participation moving forward."
