Uncertainty around Cleveland Browns QB Colt McCoy football future lingers on – NFL News
An environment of doubts and uncertainty remains prevalent around the chances of Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Colt McCoy’s recovery from concussion and his football future on the National Football League (NFL).
Browns apparently have maintained a status quo on the recovery position of the player without a confirmation that his head injury was not a career-threatening one.
Almost all of the team’s officials, including head coach, Pat Shurmur, have refrained from commenting on the issue, which has led to doubts if they are interested to have the quarterback back in their side next season.
Shurmur has added an offensive co-ordinator to his assistant coaching staff team, and the appointment is expected to boost the team’s attack line with next season in consideration.
It is unclear if the team management is going to reshuffle their offensive line-up with a possibility of more hiring firing. McCoy might not in their focus of the team if it attempts to consolidate its offence.
McCoy has not played a single game or practiced since suffering the head injury in Browns’ 13th game of 2011 NFL regular season against the Pittsburgh Steelers into the week 14 of the season.
The QB had come into a helmet-to-face mask hit from Steelers’ linebacker, James Harrison. The handling of his injury by his team’s staff had led to a review of their facilities and protocols by the NFL and NFL Players Association (NFLPA).
The inquiry in its findings has pointed out at a system failure at the Cleveland Browns. Lucky for them, they managed to escape a punishment over having allowed the player to resume his game without checking him for concussion.
Browns’ management maintained that their medical staff was busy in attending to other players on the sidelines of the game and therefore could not witness the hit and judge the impact of it.
Harrison in the meantime was suspended for one game by the league office. The punishment had been termed by the commentators to be too lenient to discipline the player. It was fifth foul in last two years and they believed the punishment would not produce
the desired results.
Colt McCoy had been ruled out of the remaining three games of the regular season by his team management due to the injury.
The management had been asked about the McCoy’s future chances of playing football and return to Browns in the future at a couple of occasions. They refrained from answering all those questions directly all the times. Their coach, Pat Shurmur, had confirmed
his ousting from the squad during all those games.
It is still unclear if the player has been able to recover to full fitness and if Browns were willing to have him back in the future. Their apparent silence has created an atmosphere of confusion and uncertainty.
