Uncharted 3: Among Thieves PlayStation 3 bundle details
Marketing whizzes at Sony are great at doing one thing and that is making PlayStation 3 bundles which people would actually want to buy and staying true to that formula, the consumer electronics company have announced an Uncharted 3 PlayStation 3 bundle.
The bundle will come with the now standard slim model of the PlayStation 3. Boasting a 320 GB Hard Drive, which is more than enough to satisfy one’s gaming and multimedia needs, the console itself is quite a beast. Gamers who purchase the bundle will also
find the Dual Shock 3 PlayStation 3 controller. It would be cruel not to include that.
Finally, the bundle will live up to its name as it will also be packing the game everyone is already terming as the front runner for Game of the Year, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. There is also a sweet looking box-art for the PlayStation 3 packaging itself.
Game and console bundles are nothing new as Sony have launched plenty in the past including a Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle, a Motorstorm: Apocalypse bundle, an InFamous 2 bundle and even a Killzone one.
Basically, any exclusive that has enough hype and enough potential to sell both the game and the console itself is combined and teased to the flocks of avid gamers. Microsoft also follows this tactic and has launched Halo and Gears of War bundles in the
past, so it is not something new in the industry.
However, for Sony, or the console maker in general, the purpose of these bundles is to sell consoles using the game. It is exclusive titles like the Uncharteds, the Killzones, the Resistances, the LittleBigPlanets and so on, that actually have gamers interested
in a particular console.
So, logically you give gamers, who do not already own a PlayStation 3 console, an incentive to do so using the game as a form of bait. Games like these are known as console movers, because that is exactly what they do, they move consoles off shelves and
into homes.
The Bundle also has a few non-physical goodies as well, including a free month’s worth of access to the premier PlayStation Network subscription service, PlayStation Plus. Priced at just $299.99, it is great value for money as well and will be a great option
for consumers come the hectic and fiercely competitive holiday season.
It seems Sony are going with the bundle offering while Electronic Arts and Ubisoft are offering free games, Dead Space with Battlefield 3 and Assassin’s Creed with Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, respectively.
All Activision is doing though is putting the words ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’ on the cover of their games and that should be enough to sell a record number of games.
