Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is now gold! come with a special bonus
Naughty Dog, the developers behind one of Sony’s most successful video gaming franchises, have declared that the latest instalment in the Uncharted series, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, has gone Gold.
For those readers who are not familiar with what the term ‘going gold’ means when it comes to the video game industry, it is best we clarify that the term is not used to declare that a game has sold a certain amount of copies, as one would guess, but rather that the game has gone into physical production.
Basically there are various stages in video game development; one may have heard terms such as Alpha, Pre-Alpha and Beta. All of those stages have to do with the coding and designing of the game.
Once all of that is done and the code is ready to be copied on CDs and mass produced, the term ‘going gold’ is used.
So basically what Naughty Dog have announced is that development on Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is now complete and that the game has gone into production.
This news has a bit of a bittersweet taste to it; firstly, every gamer will be glad knowing that the game’s development cycle is over, but on the other hand it makes the wait even more torturous.
This is because gamers will know that copies of the game are lying in some warehouse gathering dust until their release date.
Many PlayStation 3 users, as well as many members of the gaming community have their sights firmly fixed on the 1st of November, which is when the third part of the critically acclaimed blockbuster game is scheduled for release.
In fact, the hype surrounding the game is only bearable because of the fact that Naughty Dog have given players a free multiplayer beta and, more recently, access to the full multiplayer game mode.
However, gamers who buy themselves a copy of the game will also get a special treat as Sony have announced that the Uncharted 3 will come with codes for the Starhawk multiplayer beta.
The beta for the spiritual successor to one of Sony’s earliest hits on the PlayStation 3, Warhawk, is set to go live in the early months of next year.
To be honest, Sony did not need to add any extra incentive to successor of one of the best gaming experiences of its time, but it seems that the added competition that comes from the holiday season release window means that it had to pull out all the stops.
Nathan Drake’s latest adventure will see him trot around the globe with his loveable wisecracks and quick wits, and even take the treasure hunter to the Sahara desert.
