Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception review contains spoiler, Naughty Dog not happy, pleads with critics
A recent review for Naughty Dog’s upcoming action/adventure game, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, contained a spoiler and the game’s developer have reacted by asking the remaining review sites keep the key parts of the storyline a secret.
The review was published in a Spanish magazine, Playmania, and apparently it gave away the ending to Nathan Drake’s third adventure, something that unfortunate Uncharted fans will have torn the publication in half over.
The main strong point of the Uncharted series, apart from its stunning visuals, brilliant gameplay mechanics and surprisingly addictive multiplayer, has been its wonderfully crafted storyline.
Each game had a story filled with twists and turns and some of the most epic conclusions that this video gaming generation has seen.
So it will have come as a disappointment to Naughty Dog, the game’s developer, when the review gave away the ending to the game that the studio worked so hard on.
In fact, Christophe Balestra, the Naughty Dog boss, came out on, the popular social networking site, Twitter and made a public plea to the rest of the review sites to not include any spoilers in their respective reviews.
The Tweet read, “Can you, journalists and reviewers, make sure you don’t spoil the games in your reviews. Please :) Thank you!”
By ‘the games’ Naught Dog obviously meant Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and the ‘Thank You’ seemed to give off a sense of sarcasm as well.
While some of the sites have released their reviews, other are waiting in the wings until the embargo is lifted and the reviews can be published. It will be interesting to see how a majority of the sites will be able to review the game, especially the single
player element, without giving too much away by the way of storyline.
The developer has released a considerable amount of footage showing off some of the gameplay in the single player game, including a desert sequence which had everyone’s mouth watering, but at the same time they have not given anything considerable away.
What gamers do know is that the game will take place in a number of locations around the world and that Nathan Drake is again joined by a number of characters, some who are returning favourites, while others will make their debut in the series as villains.
It should be pointed out at this time though, that the aforementioned, spoiler-filled review also awarded Uncharted 3 a near perfect score, which is also the highest score any of its games has ever received.
All in all, the early signs seem promising for Uncharted 3, as the game looks to surpass the industry benchmark when it comes to action/adventure games that was set by its predecessor, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
