Uncharted movie back on, Illusionist director Neil Burger takes over project
Fans of the Uncharted series can breathe a sigh of relief and get back to being sceptical and cautious all over again, as Neil Burger has taken over as director.
Known for his work on the Illusionist and, his latest box office success, Limitless, Burger has a talent for creating both a sense of mystery and for developing characters and relationships in his films. Two things which will bode well for the film adaptation
of the Uncharted games.
The project’s previous director, David O’Russell, was under constant criticism from Uncharted fans, both for his casting options as well straying from the premise of the games. In fact, the way he wanted to take the film had fans wondering if he had even
seen, let alone played the games.
O’Russell wanted to focus more on the relationship of Nathan Drake, his father and his grandfather, as the explorer family was set to go on adventures across the world.
Apart from the plot, O’Russell’s casting preferences bewildered more than just fans of the series. It was confirmed that Mark Wahlberg, from films such as Four Brothers, the Departed and, the painful, Max Payne, was set to take on the role of the series’
protagonist, Nathan Drake. Joining him were Robert De Niro and Danny DeVito, in a film that looked set to disappoint from the very start.
However, after ‘creative differences’ led to David O’Russell leaving the project, much to the relief of Uncharted fans all over the world, the movie seemed to have been put on hold.
Now however, it seems that the project is back on track with Neil Burger taking over, and in an encouraging show of wanting to make Uncharted fans relax over any concerns they may have, went on to explain his own version of where he wanted to take the film.
Apparently Mr. Burger wants to remain true to the game series, obviously he does not want to make the same mistakes as his predecessor, and it was that vision, which in the end, landed him the job.
Fans are still calling for Nathan Fillion, the not-so-well-known actor who stars in the TV series, Castle, as he seems a perfect fit for the role with his charisma and sense of humour similar to that of the game’s protagonist.
However, both plot and cast details are sketchy at the moment as there have been no confirmations from either party. While Uncharted fans will be anxious over how their beloved series will be adapted in a big screen motion picture, at least they know that
the director wants to stay true to the game.
