Uncle Dermot determined to extend his podium streak
October had been the best time of Uncle Dermot’s career as he marvellously made four consecutive podium finishes including a victory, two runner-up positions and a third. This excellent streak has spiked up his confidence level significantly.
Most of the sport lovers and punters are expecting that the Brendan Powell trained bay gelding will able to seal top spot in today’s high-stakes race of the Direct 365 Business Necessities Handicap that is set to go down at Nottingham.
Over the distance of 1 mile and 75 yards, the four-year-old veteran horse will compete against a dozen of rivals for the sake of the prize money worth £4,075.
The track surface is soft that suits better to the Irish runner’s racing style. But if we take a look on the career chart of the gelding, we find that ground condition does not matter much for him as he has experienced every sort of surfaces so far.
The talented son of Arakan out of Cappadoce has 2 wins off 29 starts. This is not a good record that totally defies the logic of his being favourite for today’s contest, but Uncle Dermot is being considered a strong candidate not because of his stats but
the form he built up in the last month.
The Ballyhane Stud bred horse marvellously accomplished a grand victory on October 3. That was the Francis Clark Handicap, held at Salisbury. He beat Alshazah convincingly by 4 ½ lengths to thrive.
The gelding moved ahead to finish third in the Italian Brasserie Brighton Marina Handicap of 9th. He fought well and earned second spot in the Skybet.com Handicap on 22nd.
The young and energetic sprinter again stood as runner-up in Fortinational Handicap of 31st.
In the light of these four results, we can gauge the confidence level of Uncle Dermot. If he manages to sustain this, he will surely make a big impact today.
The gelding is well-familiar with the venue, and this will be an advantage for him. So, we must hope for a big show in the contest. Let us enjoy it. Good luck to Uncle Dermot.
